Social Justice: New Legal Aid Center in Morocco

Democratizing Legal Defense: A Foundation for Social Justice

Prohibitive legal fees, intricate bureaucratic hurdles, and limited legal literacy frequently prevent marginalized citizens from effectively asserting their constitutional rights.

To bridge this institutional divide, EFDI officially inaugurated its Legal Aid and Community Rights Center in Casablanca.

Core Legal Services Provided

Located in an accessible neighborhood, the clinic coordinates a dedicated network of 15 pro bono attorneys, legal scholars, and family mediators:

  1. Free Confidential Legal Consultations: Specialized guidance covering labor rights (unlawful termination, unpaid wages), tenant disputes, and consumer protection.
  2. Dedicated Division for Women and Minors: Emergency legal support and referral services for survivors of domestic violence or discrimination.
  3. Alternative Dispute Resolution: Community mediation aimed at resolving disputes amicably before costly litigation arises.
  4. Civic Literacy Workshops: Weekly open seminars demystifying employment contracts, tenant rights, and administrative appeals.

A Promising First Month

Within its first four weeks of operation, the center conducted over 180 one-on-one legal intake sessions, resolving dozens of complex disputes before court escalations.

"Justice must never be a luxury reserved for those who can afford counsel. Every individual, regardless of their financial standing, deserves competent representation and an honest hearing."
— Karim Benjelloun, Coordinating Counsel at EFDI Legal Center

The center welcomes walk-ins Monday through Friday, with immediate emergency intake available.
